How should we care for our projectors?

Edit

Cleaning

• Cleaning should only be performed when the projector is off and cool to touch.
• Many projectors feature dust filters, which help prevent dust from degrading image quality or causing the projector to overheat. These should be cleaned regularly following the directions provided in the projector's instruction manual. Some projector models feature more sophisticated filters and sealed designs which reduce or eliminate the need for filter cleaning, which is useful for projectors that are ceiling mounted.
• Solvents and chemical cleaners should not be used to clean the projector casing. A very lightly dampened lint-free cloth is recommended for cleaning the projector.
• The lens should not be touched, to remove dust from the lens we recommend you use compressed air - hold the nozzle around 15-20cm from the lens.
• If the lens is marked with finger prints, use a photographic lens cloth and lens cleaning solution, be careful not to push too hard or use paper towels as these can permanently mark the lens. Edit

Avoiding impact damage

Projectors have glass optics and lamps, meaning that care must be taken to prevent impact damage or dropping.
• Never use your projectors on uneven surfaces or unstable tables
• Always ensure power and video cables to the projector are not obstructing walkways
• Projectors should always be used in the classroom with staff supervision
• For safe portability, most projectors are provided with padded carry bags. Always use the carry bag when transporting or moving your projector. Edit

Avoiding heat-related damage

Projectors have high brightness mercury vapour lamps which generate a considerable amount of heat in use. Excessive heat build up can permanently damage your projector.
• Never operate the projector from a closed box or sealed enclosure
• Never place a projector in a carry bag while hot
• Never obstruct projector vents (keep other objects a minimum of 30cm clear of the projector)
• Do not operate the projector on its edge or when pointing directly downwards
• Do not install or operate projectors near heaters or heat vents
• If the projector has ‘power failure protection’ (generally branded as 'Auto Off', 'Direct power off', etc), cooling fans will continue to operate to safely cool the projector down when you unplug the power cord or switch the power to the projector off at the wall. This may take 1-2 minutes. When the fans have stopped, it is safe to move or store the projector.
• All current TELA Classroom Projectors feature Auto-Off, which allows your projector to be unplugged or turned off at the wall without damage. However some older projectors do not - if the projector does not have ‘power failure protection’, you should not unplug the projector from the wall or switch the power to the projector off at the wall. Instead, you must only use the Power Off button on the projector itself. When you press this button twice, the projector will switch to a high fan speed, fast cool down mode. This may take 1-2 minutes. When the fans have stopped, you can then safely disconnect your projector from the power supply to store or move.
